Who qualifies for the PM Surya Ghar subsidy?

Electricity connection in your name — the consumer number and applicant name must match
Property ownership — you own the home (or hold a long-term lease permitting installation)
Shadow-free roof space — approximately 80–100 sq ft per kW of capacity
New installation only — no existing solar system on the same electricity connection
Bank account in your name — the subsidy arrives by direct bank transfer (DBT)
No prior rooftop solar subsidy — household should not have claimed an earlier scheme

How to claim the subsidy: 7 steps, 30–90 days

Once you have a vendor, the process is largely handled for you. Here is what happens at each stage and where delays typically occur:

Register on pmsuryaghar.gov.in

Create an account with your state, DISCOM (e.g. TGSPDCL for Hyderabad South, TSSPDCL for Hyderabad North), electricity consumer number, mobile and email. The consumer number is printed on your electricity bill.

Submit your application

Log in and fill in the rooftop solar application with your address and desired capacity. For most homes, 3 kW captures the maximum ₹78,000 subsidy and suits monthly bills of ₹1,000–₹2,500.

Wait for DISCOM feasibility approval (1–3 weeks)

Your DISCOM reviews the application against your connection load and network and issues feasibility approval. Most delays here are name mismatches on the bill vs the application, or outstanding dues. Clear dues first and keep names identical.

Choose a registered vendor — the decision that matters most

After feasibility, you select a vendor registered on the portal for your state and district. Compare on experience, component brands, warranty terms and whether net metering documentation is included — not just price. A cheap bid often means thin structures or unbranded inverters.

Installation (1–2 days)

Structure, panels, inverter, cabling, earthing and safety protections — all installed by your vendor as per MNRE specifications. Physical work typically takes 1–2 days for a residential system.

Net metering application and DISCOM inspection (2–5 weeks)

Plant details are submitted on the portal; a DISCOM engineer inspects and installs a bi-directional net meter that tracks both import and export. Greentek handles this from submission to meter installation — no DISCOM office visits for you.

Commissioning certificate → subsidy in your bank (~30 days)

After inspection, the commissioning certificate is issued on the portal. Submit your bank details and a cancelled cheque; the central subsidy arrives by DBT within about 30 days. State top-ups (where available) follow a parallel state process.

🌞 Telangana & Andhra Pradesh — which DISCOM applies to you?

Telangana has two DISCOMs processing solar: TSSPDCL covers Northern Telangana, Hyderabad North and Secunderabad; TGSPDCL covers Southern and Eastern Telangana and Hyderabad South. A third DISCOM — TGRPDCL — was created in April 2026 for agriculture and water supply distribution only and does not handle residential solar applications.

Andhra Pradesh has three DISCOMs, each handling net metering directly in its own territory: APSPDCL covers Rayalaseema and southern AP; APEPDCL covers coastal AP; APCPDCL covers the Guntur, Krishna and Vijayawada belt. NREDCAP is the state nodal agency for the subsidy side only, not grid connection. AP does not offer a general residential state top-up above the central subsidy as of 2026.
